The air was laced with excitement at the CTICC on friday night as more than 700 guests decked out in their finest attire; the women wearing exquisite gowns and men boasting their finest tuxedo’s, sipped on champagne in anticipation of the start of the 2017 Veritas Awards.
“The Veritas Awards is the longest running and most prestigious wine competition in South Africa and is synonymous with excellence in wine.”
The evening commenced with a prayer, especially written by Dave Hughes – who unfortunately could not attend this ceremony this year but who was there very much in spirit as Bennie Howard relayed his cheerful blessing of the food.
Guests enjoyed a selection of award winning wines as the 2017 winners were announced – followed by ruptures of applause in celebration of South Africa’s top wines. A trio of celebrated South African chefs prepared a mouth-watering three-course meal served throughout.
The highlight of the evening was the annoucement of the first ever “Veritas Vertex Award” for the overall champion wine selected from the 1638 2017 Veritas Award entries, a show stopping applause rang out as Spier 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2015 received the coveted new award.
The evening was an overarching success; with two live bands and a DJ to lead the younger folk into the early hours of the morning.
“In total, 1 472 medals were awarded – 71 Double Gold, 193 Gold, 654 Silver and 554 Bronze.”
As the joint headline sponsor, SA Litho Label Printers, couldn’t be prouder to be associated with an event of this calibre – which celebrates wine of exceptional quality. We congratulate all the 2017 Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Winners.
The 2017 Veritas Awards took place on Friday the 6th of October at the CTICC.
