At SA litho label printers we stay ahead of the pack by keeping our finger on the pulse of market developments, with the right kind of people power, technology and passion to exploit it. It’s this forward-thinking approach to doing business that’s seen us diversify and grow into a total label solutions provider to businesses of all shapes and sizes.
We’ve invested in the best of both flexo and digital print technology to support our short and medium run business model. So whether you’re a large volume producer or a small business owner, we’ve got the right fit for you.
Our digital print department, a unit specifically dedicated to producing small order volumes, has been producing orders ranging from 1 000 to hundreds of thousands of labels for over a decade. Clients who benefit our short run capability belong to a variety of markets such as food and beverages, pharmaceutical and cosmetics, wine and spirits and home and personal care.
“The beauty of having this short run, digital print capability coupled with a longer run, flexo capability is that we are in the unique position to collaborate and grow with start-up businesses from the very beginning. Once their volumes outgrow our digital solution, it’s a seamless transition to our longer run, flexo solution,” says Jon Williams, sales manager at SA Litho Label Printers. “Our short run, digital solution is also a firm favourite amongst small and niche businesses and businesses who require smaller volumes for specialised or craft products,” he concludes.
With fewer upfront costs in the form of printing plates and set up costs, digital printing has become increasingly popular amongst clients’ for its ability to accommodate small volume print runs quickly and cost effectively, without compromising on print quality.
One of our state-of-the-art digital presses makes use of ElectroInk, a liquid ink that combines the advantages of digital printing with the characteristics associated with liquid ink, allowing us to deliver high resolution imagery and vibrant colours on par with flexo printing. Furthermore, with proven technology we are able to achieve brand specific colours, matching up to 97% of the colour gamut.
Additionally, we have a toner based digital press, with its capabilities suited to a wide range of markets, including but not limited to the food and beverages markets.
Colour consistency and print quality aren’t the only things clients’ won’t have to compromise on, our digital technology allows for all the usual finishes that clients know and love, including but not limited to foil, high build, embossing and an assortment of spot and overall varnishes.
Digital printing is not exclusive to labels, it accommodates short volume shrink sleeve orders cost effectively as well and, to guarantee our clients’ satisfaction with the end result when launching new products or artwork, we make use of our digital technology and in-house shrink application to provide them with a physical product to sample and proof before commencing with production runs.
Only digital printing can produce packaging with variable content within a single print run. This feature is extremely popular amongst our high-end wine and spirits producers who often use sequential numbering, where each label boasts a unique number, to illustrate how valuable each bottle is. It also holds merit with clients when launching seasonal or limited edition on pack promotions. Variable data printing is not limited to numbers only however, it allows for unique barcodes, text and images as well.
Brands of all sizes and scale have something to celebrate, a statement to make or simply a story to tell and for this reason we have invested in complimentary software, which further enhances our variable print capabilities, and provide brand owners with a host of tools to create personalised customer experiences using their packaging as the voice piece.
With HP SmartStream Mosaic brand owners can thrill their consumers with one of a kind products and individualised brand experiences. Mosaic is a software algorithm which, through random rotation, scaling and transposition, allows us to generate thousands, if not millions, of unique label designs using one or two base designs.
Using this technology and in an effort to save the African Elephants from extinction, Amarula Partnered with SA Litho to produce 400 000 unique labels, giving each African Elephant a unique name and a one of a kind design.
As one of the first printers to introduce short run, digital printing to the South African market and as one of the first to unlock its marketing potential with the launch of the first Mosaic campaign in Africa, let’s engage in conversation and explore the value that our technology can offer you.
