Hundreds of wine producers, brandowners and wine lovers alike gathered at the CTICC on Saturday night as more than 700 guests, boasting their finest attire, waited in anticipation for the start of the 2018 Veritas Awards or rather what is fondly called “The Oscars of the Wine Industry.”

“The Veritas Awards is the longest running and most prestigious wine competition in South Africa and is synonymous with excellence in wine.”

Guests enjoyed a selection of award winning wines and feasted on, what could only be called, a series of culinary masterpieces as the 2018 winners were announced.

Much like 2017, the climax of the evening came with the announcement of “Veritas Vertex Award” for the overall champion wine selected from a whopping 1677 2018 Veritas Award entries, a show stopping applause rang out as Distell’s Pongrácz Blanc de Blanc MCC NV was awarded the coveted accolade.

 “In total, 1 499 medals were awarded – 50 Double Gold, 219 Gold, 671 Silver and 559 Bronze.”
